Time in Between Time
*
Snow, infrequent visitor to the shores of southern Vancouver Island, put in an appearance recently to soften the face of the Provincial capital. We had an hour to pass between activities of our grandchildren and we gravitated, as we do invariably, to connect with the Pacific, that irresistible watery magnet which pulls us to its attention. ‘Small things’, they say, ‘amuse small minds’. By that measure I confess to developing an increasingly small mind, amused as I am constantly by small things like the passage of a kayak, a few seals on the ocean and flights of birds over a winter white landscape, with an acoustic backdrop of jazz from Seattle’s radio, KNKX on a crisp winter day.
